Raine lives Missouri with Laurie,
Colin & Collier, a
great family, both human & canine!
Laurie is a certified animal behaviorist,
teaches obedience classes for Noah's Ark & specializes in working with difficult
dogs.
Laurie is Raine's trainer & handler...what an AWESOME pair! We are
very proud of them both!!!

Updates from Laurie & Raine:
April 20 2008 - Raine
and I competed at a local AHBA sheepdog trial this weekend and Raine
did very well. Our AHBA trials offer stiff competition from some of
the top BC's in this area so they are always top notch trials.
On Saturday Raine qualified
both runs with Fourth Place finishes to earn her Herding Ranch Dog
III title! She placed fourth behind 3 of the best BC's in this area
(she beat several). Raine's pen work scores were the highest of any
dog. On her first run she got full points on her outrun lift and
fetch (about 150 yards). In fact her turn around the post was so
tight the sheep almost did a 180. Sunday Raine qualified with
Third place finishes to earn her Herding Trial Arena Dog II title.
Her driving was great and she got full points at the pen both times.
She is also becoming really good at shedding, I think she likes the
challenge. Now that Raine has the HRDIIIs title she can
compete for championship points!!!
April 2008 - Raine and I
found an AHBA trial in Memphis last weekend on the way home from a
business trip to Kentucky, so while Colin was at a gun show in
Memphis, Raine and I tried the local sheep. Raine
finished her Ranch Dog II title with a first place win! The
sheep were very different from what we are used to working. They
were used to being moved by people not dogs. They were difficult to
work, they ran over some of the dogs. They didn't challenge Raine at
all, of course she is used to holding and moving our ewes and lambs
so she isn't bothered by a sheep that faces off with her.
March 2008 - Raine and I
made it to the trial on Sunday and she qualified to earn the second
leg of her AKC Rally Obedience Excellent title with a fourth place
finish!
A week earlier...Laurie had this to say about Raine..."She has only
worked ducks at a trial, she really isn't sure what they are. Thank
goodness she takes my commands! Sheep are her thing."
(Laurie & Raine had a chance to meet & work with Alasdair MacRae, 9
time USBCHA Finals Champion Border Collie breeder & trainer),
Alasdair said "I can see that she would be quite a useful bitch."
High praise, we think, from a man who owns some of the best working
dogs in the world!!!
Laurie went on to say, "He said that he thinks Aussies come on
slower than BC's so she's too young to see what she might someday
be. So in other words we have to keep training. Raine spent the day
sorting out lambs to wean and helping me catch them to worm and
vaccinate. She is the best farm dog. There isn't anything she can't
do and she never gets tired or bored with it. She's always there
when I call but not bugging me when I want her out of the way.
Anyway she's exhausted so I hope she has some energy left for the
obedience trial. I have some cattle photos I'll send you, she
has only worked cattle at a trial as well but seems okay with them."

March 1, 2008 - Raine
and I hit the trial arena today and she came home with her started
duck title! She also qualified with a Fourth Place to earn the first
leg of her Advanced Sheep title!
March 3, 2008 - Raine
finished her Agility Excellent Jumpers title this weekend with First
and Third place finishes. With her 3rd place she missed first place
by less than 2 seconds. Agility competition is so tough. She also
got the first leg of her Open Fast title with a Third Place finish!
We will now take some time off agility trialing so I can sharpen up
her weaves and turns. We have several herding trials coming up in
the next few months and we will be returning to Wisconsin in May to
work with Derek Scrimgeour. Also Alasdair MacRae moved and he now
lives about 40 miles from us. We have our first lesson this Friday.
We'll see what the 9 time USBCHA champion thinks of little Raine!
21 January 2008 - Raine finished her AKC novice agility FAST class title this
weekend with a Third Place win! The dog's that placed 1st and 2nd were owned by
a USA world team member. Raine is really doing well. She is happy because
we have lambs now and she loves the new baby lambs. Our sheep numbers have grown
to almost 50 which of course Raine approves of. She helps almost everyday with
the sheep, I have to make her take a day off, she would work herself to death!
2 December 2007 - Raine finished her AKC started sheep title on Saturday with a
fourth place finish. She had a very nice run, despite the weather: windy and
freezing rain.
November 2007 - Raine and I have been busy training, but have found time to pick
up a few legs and a new title! This weekend Raine finished her AKC Open
Jumpers title with 2 First Place and 1 Second Place finish. So I moved her up to
Excellent A Jumpers and she not only qualified but ran the course in a smoking
11 seconds under course time. On a jumpers course that's incredible (it was a 43
sec. course and Raine ran it in 32 sec.)So she picked up the first leg of her
Excellent Jumpers title with a First Place finish! Raine also finished the first
2 legs of her Novice FAST class title with a First place and a Second Place.
A couple of weeks ago Raine ran in an AHBA trial in the Ranch Large Flock class.
She qualified with a Fourth Place for her first leg. Raine was the only
non-border collie to qualify on this course. The gather, and drive were in a
fifty acre field with 25 head of sheep. Raine was the only non-border collie
that could be sent and gathered the sheep successfully.
September 2007 - Raine and I
competed in the ASCA Whiskey Creek Classic this weekend and she had a wonderful
weekend! She finished her started cattle title with 2 Third Place
finishes. She also completed her Open sheep title with 2 Third Place finishes as
well. She had beautiful runs on the sheep and cattle. Calm and Confident. She
got her first leg on Started ducks with a Second Place finish. This was the
first time Raine had ever seen ducks.
Raine is really doing great. It's
hard for me to believe she is 3. We have several agility trials coming up and
some more herding a little later in the fall. I want to get her in novice
obedience but can't fit it in yet. Too many herding and agility trials coming up
this fall. We are also going out to California in October to work with Derek
again. So her name is longer again!!
April 2007 - Raine qualified on Saturday for the first leg
of her HRD II-s title with a First Place win and a very nice run. She also
qualified on Sunday for both legs of her HTAD I-s title with SECOND PLACE wins
on both legs!

Taken this spring at a USBCHA trial...Raine was
waiting at the post to go on outrun & then showing off her beautiful movement!
March 2007 - Raine qualified both days
to finish her ASCA Started Sheep title this weekend! Raine had two
beautiful runs. Cool on her sheep but definitely in control.
November 2006 - Raine finished her AKC Novice Agility
Jumpers title with another first place win!
earlier in the month...Raine competed in her first AHBA Ranch Dog Trial this
weekend. She finished her HRD I title with 2 First Place wins. On her second leg
she also got a Reserve High In Trial !
She really did a wonderful job. Both judges said she
was just great.
Judge Kathy Heileman gave her a first
place and Judge Wendy Peters gave her a first place and Reserve High In Trial. Raine really worked well and Wendy said that Raine
was really my partner and we were working together and not just following
commands. I stopped on the way home and got Raine a sirloin
steak. She said YUM.
Raine is so cool. Thanks for letting me have such a
wonderful dog. .....Laurie"

High In Trial - 2006
Raine and her talented owner Laurie do so many things, and do them so well!
Herding & agility are their current venues.

September 17, 2006 update
- Raine
debuted in AKC agility this weekend with a bang. She qualified both days in
Novice Jumpers with perfect scores of 100 and TWO FIRST
PLACE finishes.
I only entered in jumpers and not
in standard because I didn't want to stress her on her first weekend. She wasn't
stressed at all. She just burned both her courses and everyone thought she was
amazing. She will be in a trial in October!

Whooo hoooo Raine!!!! We're
very proud of Raine and her wonderful "Mama" Laurie! |
|
Last weekend at the AKC
herding trial she earned the first leg of her PT under judge Dana McKenzie. Dana
said Raine was one of the nicest working Aussies she had seen. She spent about
an hour after our run talking to me and drawing out some elaborate diagrams
which she thought might help Raine. She really just couldn't say enough good
things about Raine. She wrote on her scoresheet that Raine was an excellent
dog!!!
Raine didn't pass the first
day under the other judge Gerard Boudet. He didn't like the fact that we were
driving the course instead of fetching (rules say either is okay). He actually
got in front to the sheep and tried to get Raine to fetch the sheep to him.
Dana actually said Raine was pretty awesome to be able to drive those fetchy
sheep away from the judge who was doing everything he could to get Raine to
fetch. Raine only missed one obstacle, otherwise she would have passed. Anyway
this judge couldn't let this go and kept asking people about how I ran the PT
course the next day. Raine was the talk of that trial and we were only there for
practice in the PT. It was fun and Raine is so cool to work. My friend Paula was
watching and she told me how nervous she was. She asked if I was nervous and I
really wasn't because I just feel Raine can get the job done and she really
works for me not for herself. She's so awesome. I think I have a closer bond
with her than any dog I've ever had. |

She loves the new pup Bandit
and is teaching her the ropes. Raine has become the undisputed leader of the
canine pack and she is a wonderful teacher and leader.
May 11, 2006 update - Raine
passed her Therapy Dogs International test tonight. So now she can officially
accompany Ellie and Brownie on therapy visits to the hospitals etc.!
May 7, 2006 update - another
note...Raine qualified on Saturday with a nice score of 98 to earn the last leg
of her AKC Novice Rally Obedience title! I decided to move her up to
advanced today and she qualified to get her first leg in Rally advanced and she
had a great time. She also won high scoring dog with a herding title both days.

Laurie & Colin made the long trek from Missouri to Alberta to
pick up Raine and meet all the other dogs.
Watch for Laurie & Raine in more conformation, obedience, agility & herding as well!

Raine says, "I love this...I can chase sheep and they call it
herding!" :-)
